Amendment to Michigan Med…

Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently signed a bill into law that would amend the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act (MMMA) to require that the Act complies with certain provisions of the Revised Judicature Act of 1961.

What does the amendment to the law provide?

The amendment allows treatment courts (drug, mental health, juvenile mental health, and veterans court) the ability to discuss medical marijuana use with each individual participant, allowing it on a case-by-case basis. In addition, the amendment allows medical marijuana patients the opportunity to participate in treatment court.

Michigan Medical Marihuana Act

Generally, the MMMA authorizes the possession and use of limited amounts of marihuana by individuals with certain conditions who have been issued a medical marihuana registry identification card. The cardholder is prohibited from possessing or otherwise engaging in the use of medical marihuana in certain places.
