A recent study by "eSchool News" found that 67 percent of middle and high school students use AI to help with their schoolwork. What guidance is available for Michigan school districts on the use of AI?

Technology is moving quickly, meaning school districts must develop and continue to update policies to keep up with changing guidance and regulations.

President Joe Biden recently signed an executive order establishing new guidelines for AI. The wide-ranging order, which covers nearly every industry, directs some federal agencies to develop policies that will address the use of AI in the classroom.

Specifically, the Executive Order requires the U.S. Department of Commerce to develop guidance for content authentication and watermarking to clearly label AI-generated content. In addition, the Order calls on Congress to pass legislation aimed at data privacy concerns regarding AI.
