On September 24, 2014, Donald P. DeNault and Marc D. Kaszubski, shareholders of the firm, presented in Lansing at the Fall Conference and Annual Meeting of the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys and the Michigan Municipal League on recent developments in Michigan's open carry jurisprudence, police training for open carry encounters, and the firm's successful defense of a municipal client and its officers stemming from an open carry encounter that involved two heavily armed individuals walking near a public park and toward a medical center while exhibiting assault rifles visible to nearby traffic passing by and the residents of adjacent homes. The presentation included an analysis of the recent Opinion and Order issued by United States District Court Judge Robert Cleland in the case, which dismissed the plaintiffs' complaint in its entirety, including all claimed violations of their First, Second and Fourth Amendment rights.
